Professor

Ryerson University
Department of Aerospace Engineering

Dr. Krishna D. Kumar is a Professor and Canada Research Chair in Space Systems, and Director of Space Systems Dynamics and Control Laboratory in the Department of Aerospace Engineering at Ryerson University, Canada. His research interests include space systems design, miniature wireless systems, micro/nano-sensors and actuators (including sensor measurement, sensor fusion, state estimation, fault diagnosis, fault prognosis, and health monitoring), system dynamics and control, and intelligent control. He has been actively involved in this field for more than 20 years and received several grants totalling more than 2 million dollars in collaborations with federal and provincial government agencies, space organizations, aerospace and high-tech industries in Canada and abroad. His research has resulted in more than 150 publications (63 journal papers, 101 conference papers, five books, and two patents). The suggested innovative methods of spacecraft attitude control, spacecraft orbital maneuvering, spacecraft formation flying, and miniature wireless systems are some of the major achievements of his research work. He has received several awards including Canada Research Chair (2005-2010; 2010-2015), Ontario Early Researcher Award (2006-2011), NSERC Discovery Award (2007-2012; 2012-2017), Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS) Fellowship (2001–2003), Science and Technology Agency (STA) Fellowship (1998–2000), Associate Fellow of AIAA (2012), and Senior Member of IEEE (2011).
