Flight Simulations and Flight Data Analysis

Flight Simulations

PRESAGIS FlightSIM

FlightSIM, developed by PRESAGIS, is the industry-standard solution in order to create high-fidelity fixed-wing flight dynamics simulation. The program is also ideal for safety-critical simulation applications from building and evaluationg simulators, training equipment, avionic test bed (SIL/HIL), and cockpits to developing flight training devices or part-task trainers.

X-Plane 11

X-Plane 11, developed by Laminar Research, is a 3D realistic flight simulator with access to numerous fixed-wing aircraft, helicopters, rotor craft, and even space shuttles. It provides pilots and developers alike, a wide range of simulation scenarios, developer tools and plugins along with realistic cockpit views and interactions. It also allows one to fly and explore in VR.

Microsoft Flight Simulator X

Microsoft Flight Simulator X (FSX), originally designed by Aces Game Studios and published by Microsoft Game Studios, is the tenth version of the Microsoft Flight Simulator game series. Unlike X-Plane, it has been designed specifically for Windows OS and X-Box platforms, and does not support VR. However, it provides one of the largest library of training modules and built-in aircraft and helicopters. Asobo Studio and XBox Game Studios are rebooting the series with its first product being Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 with a high-fidelity, high resolution graphics, and many new and improved features over the previous series.

Flight Gear

Flight Gear is the most popular free and open-source flight simulator developed by aerospace enthusiasts and educators around the world under the GNU General Public License (GPL). It is often used within the academic research and educational environments. It has the capability to use Flight Dynamic Models (FDM) from a broad library of platforms such as JSBSim, YASim, UIUC, LaRCsim, and MATLAB.

Flight Data Analysis

CAE Flightscape Insight

Flightscape Insight enables detailed analysis and investigation of specific events, incidents or accidents. The application includes a comprehensive plotting and curve fitting capability to allow users to work interactively with source binary flight data.
