Smart Cabin Interior

Bombardier C-Series / Airbus A220 Cabin Mockup

At the Ryerson Aerospace Engineering Center (RAEC) at Downsview Aerospace Innovation and Research (DAIR) consortium, a series of studies are being conducted in its Bombardier C-Series passenger cabin mockup. The cabin includes fuselage structure, passenger seats, galley, service door, HVAC and lighting systems. It also houses flexible OLED ceilings and transparent display class dividers along with various other equipment for next generation aircraft interior research in collaboration with Bombardier Aerospace and various other companies. MIMS Lab is primarily in charge of the display technologies and associated projects.

CS300(A220) Cabin Interior to show

The Cabin interior seen in the video above is based on the CS300 aircraft by Bombardier (now the Airbus A220). The CAD models seen in the scene were created in a few different CAD modeling software, namely CATIA, Sketchup, and Blender. The engine used to visualize, render and add interaction was the Unreal Engine 4. The goal of this demo was to show how different research work can be fit into the mock-up at Ryerson University’s DAIR facility, with the main focus on the flexible OLED screen on the ceiling an the flexible deployable OLED screen on the side of the cabin. Furthermore, the below video shows how appliances such as smart fridge, rollable TV, and a steamer closet can potentially fit within the G7500 Cabin. This showcase features interactions with the mentioned appliances as well.

Along with the designs of IFEC and PSU (HMI tools), MIMS lab has used Multidisciplinary Design Optimization (MDO) for the development of Cabin Interior Design Optimization tool. The objective of this research is to determine optimum cabin layout configurations for commercial aircraft in order to maximize operational efficiency by maximizing ticket revenue without compromising passenger comfort and safety.
