Downsview Lab

In the Downsview branch, we primarily conduct research in aircraft cabin interiors using the Bombardier CS100/Airbus A220 aircraft cabin mock-up installed at the RAEC center. Here, we are currently testing four of Organic Light Emitting Displays (OLEDs). The aircraft cabin mock-up consists of three flexible OLED screens attached to the ceilings to provide enhanced passenger experience for mood management in long overhaul flights. We are also installing another flexible panel as an entertainment unit for business jet aircraft. Finally, the cabin also consists of a class divider designed with a high definition transparent OLED screen. A fourth screen is a semi-transparent screen used for AR application prototyping purposes. At this branch, we also conduct various other research studies in collaboration with other laboratories governed by the Department of Aerospace Engineering, and occasionally with the industrial partners such as Bombardier Aerospace.
